Khao Sok is an inland destination, so arrive by bus, shared van or private road transfer—not by ferry. The most important booking choice is the endpoint. Khlong Sok village and the national-park headquarters area serve many jungle lodges and trail-based stays. Cheow Lan Lake departures use the Ratchaprapha Dam side, a separate road destination. A ticket labelled only “Khao Sok” is incomplete information. Send the operator your accommodation or tour meeting point and ask whether the fare reaches the village, a roadside stop, the lodge itself or the lake-pier area. Phuket and Krabi are practical western gateways; Surat Thani connections can suit travellers approaching from the Gulf or railway corridor.
Getting to Khao Sok
From Phuket, the Phuket to Khao Sok guide compares scheduled buses, shared vans and private transfers. A bus can be the budget choice, but it may use a roadside stop rather than your lodge. A shared van is useful when it includes a village-hotel drop, while a private car offers the clearest fixed pickup for families, bulky luggage or a time-sensitive tour.
From Krabi, use the Krabi to Khao Sok route to compare Krabi Town, bus-terminal, airport and Ao Nang pickup patterns. A “direct” product may still collect several passengers or change vehicles at an office. Ask for the actual pickup pin and the expected Khao Sok endpoint.
Surat Thani Airport, Surat Thani city and the railway at Phun Phin can also feed overland connections toward the park region. These are useful when the preceding journey comes from Bangkok by train or from the Gulf islands, but the city, airport and station are different starting points. Book the full chain rather than assuming a generic Surat Thani transfer departs from all three.
Main arrival points in Khao Sok
Khlong Sok village is the practical arrival for many national-park-headquarters visits, jungle lodges, restaurants and trail-oriented stays. Some public vehicles stop on or near the main road rather than turning into each lodge. Ask the accommodation whether it offers pickup from the village or roadside stop.
Ratchaprapha Dam and the Cheow Lan Lake pier area serve lake tours and floating-accommodation departures. This is not a second name for Khlong Sok village. A traveller staying near the park headquarters may need a substantial additional road transfer to reach a morning lake boat, and the reverse is also true.
A named lodge drop-off is the best endpoint when included, but verify it in writing. Properties can be spread along local roads, and an operator's “hotel transfer” zone may cover only selected accommodation.
