Take a direct passenger ferry from Thong Sala Pier on Koh Phangan to Koh Samui. Common scheduled crossings take about 20–60 minutes and current pier-to-pier fares can start near THB 165, rising with faster boats or transfer bundles. Your decisive choice is the arrival pier on Samui: Bangrak, Pralarn/Maenam and Nathon serve different parts of the island.
| Option | Typical crossing | Typical fare | Best for | Main drawback |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fast ferry to Bangrak | 20–40 min | THB 200–700 | Airport and northeast Samui | Not useful for west-coast hotels |
Typical price from
฿200–฿500
| Ferry to Pralarn/Maenam | 30–45 min | THB 300–700 | Maenam and Bophut | Requires onward road transfer elsewhere |
| Ferry to Nathon | 30–60 min | THB 165–500 | Nathon and west coast | Farther from the airport and Chaweng |
| Ferry + hotel/airport transfer | 1.5–3 hr total | THB 500–1,200+ | Simple onward connection | Higher fare and fixed pickup/drop-off process |
Use the official Lomprayah 2026 timetable for operator schedule information. Current booking results show several vessel and transfer products, but times and fares are dynamic and must be checked for your travel date.
Best overall: the direct service arriving closest to your Samui hotel or the airport. On this short route, reducing the taxi ride often saves more time than selecting the fastest boat.
Cheapest: basic foot-passenger departures can be inexpensive, particularly without transfer. Include the Koh Samui taxi fare in your comparison.
Fastest: speedboats can schedule around 20 minutes at sea, but loading, check-in and road transport mean the total journey is longer.
Most scheduled public ferries leave from Thong Sala, Koh Phangan’s main harbour on the southwest coast. It is easy to reach from Thong Sala town, while Haad Rin, Sri Thanu and the northern beaches require a songthaew or taxi.
Arrive by the check-in time shown on the voucher. During major island events, roads and the pier can be crowded; leave extra time rather than arriving exactly at the ticket cutoff. Confirm whether a hotel pickup brings you to Thong Sala or to another small landing point.
Bangrak Pier is generally the most convenient arrival for Samui Airport, Choeng Mon and parts of Bophut. Pralarn/Maenam Pier suits the north coast. Nathon Pier, on the west coast, is best for Nathon and nearby western areas.
Koh Samui is much larger and more developed than Koh Phangan. Piers open into road networks with taxis, songthaews, transfer vans and local businesses, but there is no single fixed taxi price for every destination. Ask for the fare before departure or pre-book a transfer.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand guide documents the established short passenger link between the islands. It is a useful stable reference for geography; schedules and prices still need a current operator check.
Do not plan around the scheduled ferry arrival alone. Allow time to dock, unload luggage, find your driver and travel to the terminal. Bangrak is nearest, but even there a delay on the water can compromise a tight check-in.
For a domestic flight, use the airline’s check-in deadline and add a generous ferry-delay buffer. For an international or expensive connection, staying on Samui the night before is the safer choice. Separate ferry and flight bookings generally do not protect each other.
Standard luggage is usually accepted, but rules differ among catamarans, ferries and speedboats. Large suitcases may be stacked away from your seat. Label them and keep documents, electronics and medication in a small bag.
Passenger services are not automatically vehicle ferries. Travelling with a car or motorbike can require a specialist booking and potentially a mainland connection. Confirm the vehicle route directly instead of relying on a foot-passenger timetable.
Strong wind and waves may delay or cancel crossings. Conditions can be unsettled during the Gulf wet season, and speedboats may feel more exposed in chop. Follow crew instructions and take motion-sickness medication early if needed.
Book ahead for Thai holidays, weekends and Full Moon-related travel periods. Before payment, verify Thong Sala departure, Samui arrival pier, vessel type, luggage terms and transfer inclusions.
Compare the reverse journey at Koh Samui to Koh Phangan, or continue with routes from Koh Phangan, the Koh Samui destination hub and the Thailand ferry guide.
Typical direct crossings take around 20–60 minutes, depending on vessel and arrival pier. Door-to-door time is longer.
Bangrak is generally closest. Still leave a meaningful buffer because ferry delays, unloading and road traffic are possible.
Most regular services leave Thong Sala Pier. Check the voucher because special-event or private products may use another point.
Ordinary tourist luggage is normally accepted, but size, weight and excess-fee policies vary. Ask in advance about oversized items.
Yes for popular departures, holidays and major Koh Phangan events. Outside busy periods, same-day seats may exist but are not guaranteed.
