A shared van is the best option for most travellers because it runs throughout the year and usually collects from Krabi Town, Krabi Airport or Ao Nang before crossing the local vehicle ferry and dropping at Koh Lanta hotels. Allow 2.5–4 hours and around THB 350–650. Passenger ferries and speedboats can be attractive from roughly November to April, but their dates, piers and weather limits must be checked for each trip.
| Option | Typical time | Typical price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|

| Private transfer | 2–3 hours |
Typical price from

| THB 1,800–3,000 per vehicle |
| Families, luggage and direct timing |
| Seasonal passenger ferry | 2–3 hours | THB 500–800 | Relaxed high-season travel |
| Seasonal speedboat | 1–2 hours | THB 800–1,200 | Shortest sea journey in good weather |
Koh Lanta is a long island. Saladan and Klong Dao are in the north, while Klong Nin and Kantiang are much farther south. A ticket advertised as “Krabi to Koh Lanta” may include a northern drop only or hotel delivery across a defined zone.
Best overall: shared van. It is the dependable all-season choice, includes the short vehicle-ferry crossing and often removes the need for taxis at both ends.
Cheapest: shared van from Krabi Town or the airport. Current booking listings begin around THB 386. Ao Nang pickup may cost more because it adds distance and a collection round.
Fastest: private transfer or seasonal speedboat. A private car is usually the quickest predictable door-to-door journey. A speedboat may cross faster, but check-in and pier transfers can make the full trip longer.
The road route heads south from Krabi to Hua Hin Pier, where the vehicle boards a short public car ferry to Koh Lanta Noi. It then continues over the bridge to Koh Lanta Yai and delivers passengers to the booked stop. Travellers usually remain with the vehicle during the island transfer, although operator procedures can vary.
Current listings show vans from Krabi Bus Terminal, Krabi Town, the airport and hotel pickup zones. Compare current Krabi–Koh Lanta products, treating fares and times as indicative rather than live guarantees.
Pickup rounds explain why the same road distance may be sold as two, three or four hours. A van leaving Krabi Airport with all passengers ready can be quick; one collecting across Ao Nang and dropping at several southern hotels takes longer.
Passenger boats may leave from Klong Jilad, Nopparat Thara, Railay or another Krabi-area pier and normally arrive at Saladan Pier. The sea route avoids the road loop but is more sensitive to season and wind.
Ao Nang Travel currently lists Ao Nang–Koh Lanta and Railay–Koh Lanta services on its route page. Check the operator’s current route list. Its detailed Koh Lanta–Krabi page states that the reciprocal service is seasonal, generally November to April, and excludes a broad May-to-November period. Review the operator’s seasonal conditions.
Do not assume “Krabi ferry” means Krabi Town. Railay departures may involve beach boarding, while Ao Nang services can include hotel pickup. Confirm how suitcases move between land transport and the boat.
The Thai Meteorological Department issues Andaman wind-wave warnings during stronger monsoon periods, sometimes advising small boats to remain ashore. Check current TMD warnings. The road route remains the practical fallback when passenger boats stop.
For vans, one regular suitcase or backpack is the safest assumption. For boats, keep valuables and electronics protected from spray and label stored luggage. Conventional ferries offer more space than small speedboats.
Book shared vans a few days ahead, and earlier for Christmas, New Year and Thai holidays. Send the hotel pin and reconfirm pickup the evening before. For a private car, ask whether the vehicle-ferry charge is included.
For a boat, search your exact date and pier rather than relying on a seasonal summary. Build flexibility into the arrival day and avoid a prepaid activity immediately after the crossing.
Yes. The year-round road route uses a short public vehicle-ferry crossing between the mainland and Koh Lanta Noi before continuing by road.
Many passenger-boat services pause in the southwest-monsoon season. Use the shared road transfer unless a specific operator confirms a sailing on your exact date.
Often, but only within the operator’s listed zones. Southern hotels may cost more or take substantially longer than Saladan.
Yes. Shared and private road transfers pick up at Krabi Airport, and some combined boat products also start there with a land transfer.
