Koh Lanta has no commercial airport or railway, so the most dependable general arrival is usually Krabi Airport plus a shared minivan or private road transfer to your hotel. From Krabi, through vans operate as a land-and-vehicle-crossing journey; from Phuket, road transfers and seasonal passenger ferries may both be available. Ferries normally use Saladan Pier in northern Koh Lanta, but Saladan is not the end of the trip for most beach accommodation. Before paying, verify the date, island endpoint and whether the ticket includes a hotel drop. Passenger-ferry networks are seasonal, while road transfers can remain the practical choice when a sea route is not operating.
Getting to Koh Lanta
From Krabi, compare the full Krabi to Koh Lanta journey. A shared minivan is often the simplest option because it can combine the mainland drive, the vehicle transfer onto the island and, on some products, a hotel-zone drop. A passenger ferry can be attractive when it operates on your date and both ends fit your accommodation, but it is not automatically faster after check-in and transfers.
Travellers flying into Krabi should check whether an airport transfer is sold through to the hotel or only to Saladan. Share the flight number and allow for baggage collection. A cheap fare that requires waiting for another vehicle at a town office may not be the best arrival after a long flight.
From Phuket, the Phuket to Koh Lanta guide explains the choice between a long road transfer and a seasonal sea itinerary, sometimes routed via Phi Phi. The ferry network can change by month, so treat the operator's timetable for your date as the deciding evidence.
Main arrival points on Koh Lanta
Saladan Pier, at the north of Koh Lanta Yai, is the principal passenger-ferry arrival. It is convenient for Saladan and the northern beaches, but accommodation farther down the west coast or in the south still requires a taxi, shared transfer or resort pickup.
Hotel or road drop-off may be the true endpoint of a through minivan ticket. Confirm the named coverage area. A listing that says “Koh Lanta hotel transfer” may exclude distant southern properties, private roads or addresses outside the operator's standard zone.
Some road itineraries use an operator office or transfer point before passengers are redistributed into smaller vehicles. Keep the ticket available and ask whether you must change vans. Do not assume the driver will know an English-only property name; save the map pin and phone number.
