A shared van is the best and usually cheapest option throughout the year. It collects from Koh Lanta hotels, crosses the local vehicle ferry and reaches Krabi Airport, Krabi Town, the bus terminal or Ao Nang in roughly 2.5–4 hours for around THB 350–650. A private car is fastest at about 2–3 hours. Passenger ferries from Saladan are a seasonal alternative, generally in the November–April period.
| Option | Typical time | Typical price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shared van + vehicle ferry | 2.5–4 hours | THB 350–650 | Year-round hotel pickup |
| Private transfer | 2–3 hours |
Typical price from

| THB 1,800–3,000 per vehicle |
| Airport, families and fixed timing |
| Seasonal passenger ferry | About 2.5 hours plus transfers | THB 500–800 | Ao Nang or Krabi high-season travel |
| Seasonal speedboat | 1–2 hours plus transfers | THB 800–1,200 | Shortest sea journey in good weather |
The destination label matters more than the vehicle category. Krabi Airport, Krabi Bus Terminal, Krabi Town, Klong Jilad Pier and Ao Nang are separate arrival points. Choose the one that matches your flight or accommodation.
Best overall and cheapest: shared van. It runs in all seasons and usually includes Koh Lanta hotel pickup. The vehicle uses the local car ferry, then continues overland to Krabi.
Fastest: private transfer. It avoids collection and drop-off rounds. This is the safest choice for an airport deadline, especially from a hotel in southern Koh Lanta.
Seasonal alternative: passenger boat. It can be pleasant when the sea is settled and the arrival suits Ao Nang or Krabi Town, but it is not a universal low-season service.
Pickup time depends on hotel location. A van begins earlier at Kantiang or Klong Nin than at Saladan, then drives north, crosses from Koh Lanta Noi to the mainland by vehicle ferry and continues to Krabi. Multiple hotel pickups and the ferry queue can extend the advertised time.
Current booking listings show vans to Krabi Airport, town and other drop points. Compare current Koh Lanta–Krabi products, treating exact prices, times and coverage as dynamic.
For an airport journey, select a product explicitly ending at Krabi Airport (KBV). A Krabi Town or bus-terminal ticket requires another transfer. Leave a generous buffer: shared vans can be delayed by collections, the car-ferry queue, road traffic and weather.
Passenger ferries normally leave Saladan Pier in northern Koh Lanta. The arrival may be Nopparat Thara/Ao Nang, Railay or another Krabi-area pier, sometimes with an included hotel drop. Do not assume “Krabi” means Klong Jilad Pier or the airport.
Ao Nang Travel’s detailed Koh Lanta–Krabi product publishes a 13:30–16:00 example, includes selected Krabi-area drop-offs, and explicitly states that this service operates only in the main season, with a broad May-to-November exclusion. It also lists a 20 kg luggage allowance for that product. Check the operator’s current conditions for your date.
Hotel pickup may begin well before sailing. If booking late, the operator may require self-check-in at Saladan rather than collecting you.
Southwest-monsoon winds can create rough Andaman conditions. The Thai Meteorological Department may warn of two-metre or higher waves near Krabi and direct small boats to remain ashore. Check current TMD warnings.
The road route is less sea-sensitive but can still be delayed by heavy rain and ferry queues. In a shared van, declare oversized luggage and reserve a luggage seat when necessary. On a boat, tag stored bags and keep documents, electronics and medication protected.
Reserve shared vans a few days ahead and earlier for long weekends and peak season. Send the exact hotel and final Krabi endpoint, then reconfirm the pickup window the evening before. Private drivers should receive your flight time and luggage count.
For a seasonal ferry, check the exact operating date, Saladan check-in, arrival pier, included hotel transfer and baggage conditions. Keep the van as a fallback if the sea service is unavailable.
Yes. It uses the short local vehicle-ferry crossing from Koh Lanta Noi to the mainland, then continues by road to Krabi.
Yes. Book a van or private transfer whose destination explicitly states Krabi Airport, and leave a generous pre-flight buffer.
Many passenger services pause during the southwest-monsoon period. Use the year-round road transfer unless an operator confirms your exact sailing.
No. Ao Nang is a separate coastal resort area west of town. Choose the ticket and drop-off that match your accommodation.
