Book a combined bus or van and ferry ticket from Surat Thani to Thong Sala Pier on Koh Phangan. Current through journeys typically take around 2.75–6.5 hours and cost about THB 350–750. The key is to select the exact mainland origin—Surat Thani Town, Airport or Train Station—rather than assuming all “Surat Thani” tickets start in the same place.
| Option | Typical total time | Typical price | Best for | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Van/bus + high-speed ferry | 2.75–4 hr | THB 400–750 | Fastest coordinated trip | Fewer practical departure windows |
Typical price from
฿450–฿950
| Bus + conventional ferry | 4–6.5 hr | THB 350–600 | Cheapest | Longer crossing, possible Samui call |
| Separate taxi/van to Donsak + ferry | 4–6 hr | THB 500–1,200 | Flexible groups | Connection is unprotected |
| Private mainland transfer + ferry | 3.5–6 hr | THB 2,000+ plus boat | Late or group arrivals | High cost |
Use the official Lomprayah 2026 timetable for current operator schedules. The Tourism Authority of Thailand guide describes Donsak ferry links, while booking results provide date-specific examples rather than guaranteed permanent times.
Best overall: one through-ticket from your actual arrival point to Thong Sala. Staff coordinate the road and sea legs, reducing the chance of ending at the wrong pier.
Cheapest: scheduled bus and conventional ferry combinations commonly offer the lowest fare. Accept the longer journey and check whether the boat calls at Samui.
Fastest: high-speed combinations from a city or airport meeting point can take under four hours on favourable schedules. Do not compare them with a Donsak-only ferry ticket unless you are already at the coast.
These are three separate starting points. Surat Thani Town has operator offices and pickup points. Surat Thani Airport lies west of the city. Surat Thani Train Station is in Phun Phin. Transfers to the ferry area therefore have different times and prices.
Match the ticket to where you physically arrive. A flight landing at URT needs an airport-origin product; an overnight train passenger should choose the train-station pickup. If the connection is sold separately, add a conservative delay margin.
Many conventional ferries leave the Donsak coast, east of Surat Thani. The transfer there is a substantial road leg and should be included in a through-ticket. Donsak has multiple operator terminals, so use the company and pier named on the voucher.
Some high-speed products are sold from Surat Thani city or a Tapee-area meeting point, with the operator coordinating the route. This does not necessarily mean the entire sea crossing begins in central Surat Thani. Follow the current itinerary, not an old generic pier description.
Regular public services arrive at Thong Sala, Koh Phangan’s main harbour on the southwest coast. The town is adjacent to the pier; Haad Rin, Sri Thanu, Thong Nai Pan and northern beaches need a road transfer.
Songthaews and taxis meet many boats, but event arrivals can create queues. Agree on the fare or pre-book your hotel pickup. A product ending at “Koh Phangan” may stop at the pier rather than your accommodation.
Demand rises around major Koh Phangan events, Thai holidays and weekends. Book the mainland transfer and ferry together in advance. The last useful same-day departure can sell out or leave before a delayed flight or train reaches its meeting point.
If your flight lands late afternoon or evening, verify the entire itinerary before travelling. An overnight in Surat Thani is safer than relying on an unconfirmed late speedboat.
Standard luggage is generally carried, but it may move between a van, bus and ferry storage area. Label large bags and keep valuables with you. Confirm surfboards, diving equipment, prams and multiple suitcases before booking.
High-speed craft reduce time but can feel rougher; conventional ferries are slower and roomier. Wind and swell can delay either service. Leave arrival flexibility and take motion-sickness medication before boarding if required.

Typical combined services take about 2.75–6.5 hours, depending on the starting point, road transfer and ferry.
Only when you buy a combined ticket. A Donsak ferry-only fare assumes you reach the correct terminal yourself.
Most regular public services arrive at Thong Sala Pier, beside Koh Phangan’s main town.
Some slower services do. Check the detailed itinerary; an intermediate call does not always require changing boats.
Yes. Ferries, mainland transfers and onward taxis can be busy before and after major events.
