For most long-distance journeys, the simplest way to reach Krabi is a flight into Krabi International Airport, followed by a road transfer to Krabi Town, Ao Nang or another coast area. From Phuket or Koh Lanta, a shared minivan can be more direct; from Koh Phi Phi and selected Andaman points, a ferry is often the logical final main leg. Do not book only to “Krabi” without checking the endpoint. Krabi Province includes the airport, Krabi Town, Klong Jilad Pier, Ao Nang, Railay and widely separated hotel zones. Your first transfer after arrival can therefore be a taxi, shared van or passenger boat, and it may materially change the real journey time and cost.
Getting to Krabi
Flying is usually the cleanest choice from Bangkok or for travellers connecting from abroad. The Bangkok to Krabi guide compares the air journey with the much longer bus option. A flight saves road time, but the airport is only the provincial gateway; it is not a walkable arrival for the main visitor areas.
Road travel works particularly well across southern Thailand. The Phuket to Krabi route can be completed by bus or minivan without a sea crossing, while selected ferry itineraries may also be sold in season. A road ticket that includes your hotel zone can be more useful than a cheaper terminal-only fare. From Koh Lanta, read the endpoint details in the Koh Lanta to Krabi guide, because services may combine the island road leg with a mainland drive or operate by sea when scheduled.
From Koh Phi Phi, the main journey is by boat. Book to the exact Krabi-side pier or coastal stop. “Krabi” on a search result does not automatically mean Ao Nang or a Railay beach.
Main arrival points in Krabi
Krabi International Airport is the principal air gateway. Onward choices normally include pre-arranged cars, taxis, shared vans and airport-linked bus services, but availability and operating hours can change. Confirm whether an advertised hotel transfer serves Krabi Town, Ao Nang or your exact accommodation.
Krabi Bus Terminal is a road hub for interprovincial and regional services. A ticket ending there still needs a local transfer. If arriving late, check that the next vehicle is operating rather than assuming the terminal will have a convenient connection.
Klong Jilad Pier, near Krabi Town, appears in official operator timetables for services involving Phuket and Koh Phi Phi. It is not the same place as Ao Nang. Other passenger boats can use Ao Nang-area points or connect via Railay, so copy the written pier name from the ticket.
